Dance













Ballet
Open Ages 6 to 10: In this class students will learn basic ballet positions, posture, vocabulary, and technique. We start in the center of the room and then move to across the floor once warmed up. All that is required is a love of movement. Students need to either wear socks or ballet slippers, stretchy pants or leotard and tights, comfortable appropriate top and their hair pulled back out of their face.
Open Ages 11 to 18: This class will cover the fundamentals of classical ballet technique through learning, ballet positions, posture, and vocabulary. It is a more formal setting that will give students the discipline to mature as dancers. Students need to either wear socks or ballet slippers, stretchy pants or leotard and tights, comfortable appropriate top and their hair pulled back out of their face.
Performance AP: This is an accelerated ballet class for committed students and in this class students will gain a complete understanding of ballet technique. Emphasis will be placed on proper technique and alignment, increasing strength and flexibility as well as being encouraged to strive for grace and poise. This is a performance class and requires commitment through our shows. Students need to wear tights, leotard and ballet slippers to class as well as have their hair in a bun. Students may wear a skirt and or a tank top over their tights and leotard but nothing too baggy or below the knee.

Jazz
Open Ages 6 to 10: Jazz dance is a fun and energetic style. The class includes a warm-up with stretching, isolations, strengthening exercises and then moves across the floor to work on turns, leaps, jumps and runs. Students need to either wear sneakers or jazz shoes, stretchy pants, comfortable appropriate top and their hair pulled back out of their face.

More difficult technique will be introduced with emphasis on the importance of strength, flexibility, rhythm, musicality, and memorization. This is a performance class and requires commitment through our shows. Students need to either wear sneakers or jazz shoes, stretchy pants, comfortable appropriate top and their hair pulled back out of their face.

Creative Dance Conditioning
Students work on performance skills, contemporary dance, and freestyle skills. Students must have experience with at least one other AP dance class in PRYAF as a perquisite (this includes intermediate or advance ballet or jazz only).

Hip-Hop
Beginning: This class is an introduction to hip hop. The student will learn basic rhythm, coordination, and basic footwork while learning how to dance to the beat of the music. Students will learn to memorize choreography by working on combinations each class. Activities will include stretching, across the floors, simple warm up dances, choreography, free dance and games. The goal is for each student to feel comfortable dancing in a group setting, to gain self-confidence and to learn how to work together as a team. Please wear clothes and shoes you can dance in. No dresses or boots! This is an upbeat and high energy class so bring your funk!
Beginning 10-18 yrs: Will be learning the basic fundamentals of hip hop like rolling body, popping, and locking with coordinating foot work. You will need comfortable athletic shoes, t-shirts and pants to stretch in.
Pre Performance: This teacher-appointed class is for students who have already taken beginning hip hop and have shown that they are committed and ready to learn what it takes to perform on stage. Students continue to work on what they learned in beg hip hop but at a more challenging level.
Performance: A continuation  of the fundamentals of hip hop along with learning how to improve in your own personal choreography in hip hop. More expectation of keeping up with hip-hop choreography quickly and “cleaning”(perfecting) moves in dance numbers. You will need comfortable athletic shoes, t-shirts and pants to stretch in.
Intermediate: Students learn complex moves and choreography in this teacher-appointed class.

Break Dance
Break Dance – Beginning/Open
Students will learn the basic moves of Breakdance at an easy and comfortable pace. The fundamentals of footwork, spins, and freezes are explored, working up to complex combinations and routines. (Shorts and sandals are not recommended during class).
Break Dance – Pre Performance AP
Pre-requisites include beginning breakdance or hip-hop, the ability to learn choreography, dance to counts, and work with others in performing dance numbers.
Break Dance – Performance AP
The Performance Break Dance class is a fusion of Breakdance, Popping, Hip-Hop, and Contemporary with the aim of performing and mastering complex dance numbers that can be showcased at a competition level. This class moves at a fast pace and is for the experienced dancer looking to stretch his or her abilities.
